Companion Study Guide for Teachers and Students

This preparatory study guide, which is available online at www.socialstudies.com was developed for students in grades 7 - 12.

The guide was written by historians Gary B. Nash and David Vigilante, in cooperation with Ann Meredith of Lights of Liberty, Inc. Mr. Nash is Director of the National Center for History in the Schools (NCHS), Co-Director of the National Standards Project, a former president of the Organization of American Historians and author of Forging Freedom: The Formation of Philadelphia's Black Community, 1720-1840. Mr. Vigilante is Association Director of NCHS and a member of the teacher taskforce that participated in the construction of the National Standards for United States History.
