The popular Madcap Theater Company,
producers of a zany series of ‘madcap’ shows
that put an irreverent and comical spin on
American history, are performing their most
recent production of The Madcap Show:
History…done funny! at Lights of Liberty
in February. Madcap Theater has been
performing live historical theater at Lights
of Liberty for several years, mostly to tour
and travel groups.
Now, local residents can find out what
everyone else in the country already knows –
“Madcap Theater draws the line between
stupid and genius” and “I never read about
any of this in high school.” (audience
comments)
Tickets are $10, with advance sales at
215-542-3789 ext. 226, or at the door one
hour before show time.
All Madcap shows share a common goal of
bringing the audience into the story and
seeing the lighter side of serious historic
moments. Madcap’s two-person cast works at
a breathless pace to perform their version
of the founding of Philadelphia by William
Penn, Paul Revere’s famous ride, the deadly
Yellow Fever epidemic, John Paul Jones
wrestling and the infamous baby toss. Betsy
Ross, George Washington and other
revolutionary legends get ‘madcapped’ as
well in this 1 ½ hour show that’s pure
mayhem. Everyone becomes part of the show
which is the best of vaudeville, comedy club
and live theater.
Founded in 2001, Madcap Theater produces
performances, summer theater camps and
workshops for youth. Founder and performer
Owen Timoney has written and produced
several shows in Philadelphia, New York and
Chicago including A Pirate Christmas,
Gothic by Gaslight and The
Condensed American Revolution.
Shoshanna Hill, Madcap member and performer
has been working in film and television for
the last 10 years and in theater since the
age of two. She has co-written and produced
short films for the Philadelphia Fringe
Festival.
